Anthony Vargas is a Probationary Police Officer with the New York City Police Department, beginning his tenure in April 2025, whose life has been defined by service. His prior service commitments include working as Student Affairs Administrator at the Univeristy at Buffalo, honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, and was an Explorer Bureau Chief for the NYPD.
Vargas is currently battling an extremely rare condition—vasculitis of the celiac trunk—affecting only a small number of people worldwide. His treatment requires multiple chemotherapy treatments. After reaching remission in February 2025, the condition returned just months later while he was in the police academy, though he is now showing signs of progress.
Vargas moves forward with resilience, discipline, and an unshakable commitment to service. While this condition has tested him in ways he never anticipated, his dedication to helping others remains steadfast. He looks forward to regaining his strength and continuing his career with the NYPD, serving the city he is proud to call home.
